Mercedes-Benz EQC, an electric car with premium label ramps up production

Mercedes-Benz debuts in the segment one hundred percent electric with this SUV and traces of coupe and wide deployment of elements in both design and technology that will form the hallmark of future products of the EQ saga. For its propulsion, the new Mercedes-Benz EQC mounts an electric motor on the front axle and another on the rear axle which gives it the qualities of a full-wheel drive vehicle. It develops a joint power of approximately 300 kW, and the combined maximum torque of the two electric motors amounts to about 765 Nm.

A lithium-ion battery with an energy capacity of 80 kWh supplies the electricity needed by the vehicle. Consumption and autonomy data stand at 22.2 kWh at 100 kilometers and 450 kilometers, respectively. It also has five driving programs and a haptic accelerator pedal that also contributes to saving energy. In turn, the driver can influence the recovery power by actuating the shift cams arranged behind the steering wheel.

The recharge can be done through the onboard charger with a power of 7.4kW or through the Mercedes Benz Wallbox, three times faster. The maximum recharge power of the battery is 110 kW, in that case, the charging time is about 40 minutes for an increase of 10 to 80 percent of the state of charge.

According to Mercedes-Benz, the production of the EQC will be initially limited by the complexity of integrating its battery, consisting of 384 independent cells distributed in 6 modules. Although the German firm denies it, the truth is that this limitation could really exist because of the shortage of this type of battery cells. The supplier chosen by Mercedes-Benz is LG Chem, the same one that Audi or Jaguar has for the e-tron and the I-Pace, with limited production levels.

The two electric motors of the EQC, located one on each axis, offer a combined power of 300 kW (408 hp). The maximum speed is 180 km / h, with an acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h in 5.1 seconds.
